Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ⅔ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ¾ cups Chelsea Caster Sugar
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten

To serve

  • Whipped or thickened cream
  • Chocolate icing (optional)

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C bake. Grease two deep, 20cm round cake pans.
Sift flour, baking soda and cocoa into a large bowl; stir in sugar. Add butter, water and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer for 5 minutes or until well combined and changed in colour. Divide mixture evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 35 minutes.
To serve, sandwich cakes together with whipped or thickened cream. You could also ice with chocolate icing if desired.
