Classic apple crumble is a long-time favourite, and our version with Chelsea Dark Sugar Cane gives an even richer and fuller flavour.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples (4-5 apples)
  • ¼ cup Chelsea Caster Sugar (56g)
  • ½ tsp mixed spice
  • ¼ cup water (60ml)

Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup Edmonds Standard Grade Flour (150g)
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut (100g)
  • ½ cup Chelsea Dark Cane Sugar or Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar (100g)
  • 75g butter (cold and cut into cubes)

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C bake.
Place fruit in a well-greased oven-safe dish (approximately 23-25cm diameter for a round dish). Sprinkle with Chelsea Caster Sugar and mixed spice, and pour water over the top.
Place all of the topping ingredients in a food processor and process until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Alternatively, mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl and rub butter in with your fingertips.
Sprinkle crumble topping over the fruit. Bake for 45 - 50 minutes, until topping is golden and fruit is tender.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice-cream.
Variations: Try mixing apples with other fruit such as pears. Add raisins or sultanas for some extra flavour.
