Frequently asked questions
How do I thicken chocolate icing if it’s too runny?

To fix runny chocolate icing, add more icing sugar a little at a time until it reaches the right consistency. Chilling it for a few minutes can also help firm it up.

Can chocolate icing be frozen?

Yes! Chocolate icing freezes well in an airtight container for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge, then stir or beat to restore its creamy texture before spreading.

Why is my chocolate icing grainy?

Grainy chocolate icing can happen if the icing sugar isn’t fully dissolved or if the butter is too cold. Sifting the icing sugar before mixing and beating the icing longer can help create a smoother texture.

Can I use melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder in chocolate icing?

Yes! Melted chocolate can be used instead of cocoa powder for a richer, creamier chocolate icing. Adjust the amount of liquid to keep the consistency smooth and spreadable.
