Invitations

Ahoy there mateys! Here are some great ways to summon pirates

Design option 1
  • Cut out lots of gold coins on cardboard paper.

  • Write a different part of the invitation on each coin.

  • Put all your gold coins into a box - like a treasure chest.

  • Guests sort through the treasures to find out what's happening.

Design option 2
  • Paint the paper with a cup of cold coffee.

  • Carefully burn around the edges using a candle.

  • Write in the party details.

Special touch
  • Work in phrases such as "Ahoy there, Matey".

Games

Here are some great activities to keep the pirates entertained

Activities

  • Children paint their own pirate bandana using fabric paint.

Treasure Hunt

  • Hand the captain a map covered with decades of dust (a pinch of flour).

  • Write a message about a treasure hidden in the house.

  • Each guest guesses the answer to a riddle.

  • Guests run to wherever the clue leads

Musical Islands

  • Set as many hula hoops on the floor.

  • Play music and have pirates walk around the hoops until the music stops.

  • Pirates must be standing inside one of the "islands" or they're out.

  • Every time take away a hoop until only one hoop and pirate remain.

Sink the ship

  • Make newspaper cannon balls

  • Divide the children into 2 teams

  • Mark out a boat in front of each team

  • When you say 'Go', try to throw cannon balls in the opposing team's boat

  • The team with the most balls in their boat is sunk.

Fishing for prizes

  • Make fishing poles with magnets on the end of the line

  • Set the children up to go fishing

  • Attach a giant paper clip to each prize

  • Ensure the prize is light enough to be pulled up by the magnet
